March: Hinamatsuri month! (English post)

In Japan, tea ceremony is very tied to seasons and seasonal festivals and, when you think of a seasonal festival in early March, obviously, you'll think to Hinamatsuri or Dolls Festival Festival, also known as Girl's Festival.

This celebration, which in Japanese is said 雛 祭 り, is the third day of the third month (that is March 3) and sees in their homes, the collections of the dolls of the family put on a display lined in red fabric. These pedestals made in "steps", can also be very large.

The dolls usually represent the Emperor and Empress, and many of their servants and their court, and are dressed in the style of Heian.

This festival is also called Girls Festival because when a child is born, into a family, parents buy  dolls (and often do it also friends and family) and, every year, during this festival, the whole family prays that the bad luck  fall on dolls rather than on girls.

In March, Chanoyu uses objects, paintings and sweet with the typical designs of dolls of this Feast.

I decided to pay homage to this tradition using my cup with hina drawing depicting dolls dressed up in a tangle of branches with leaves and spring blooms. It 'a cheerful and festive chawan I love very much.

Marzo: il mese di Hinamatsuri

La cerimonia del tè in Giappone è molto legata alle stagioni e alle feste stagionali e nel Paese del Sol Levante, quando si pensa ad una festa stagionale nei primi di Marzo si pensa a Hinamatsuri ovvero la festa delle bambole, detta anche festa delle bambine.

Questa festa, che in giapponese si dice 雛祭り, è il terzo giorno del terzo mese (ossia il 3 Marzo) e vede esposte nelle case le collezioni di bambole della famiglia che vengono messe in bella mostra, spesso insieme ai loro numerosi utensili, su piedistalli rivestiti in tessuto rosso. Questi piedistalli fatti a "gradini" possono essere anche molto grandi.
Le bambole solitamente rappresentano l'imperatore e l'imperatrice e molti dei loro servitori e della loro corte e sono vestiti secondo lo stile dell'epoca Heian.

Questa festa viene anche detta Festa delle bambine perché quando in una famiglia nasce una bambina i genitori le comprano delle bambole ( e spesso lo fanno anche amici e parenti) e, ogni anno, durante questa festa, tutta la famiglia prega che la sfortuna cada sulle bambole piuttosto che sulle bambine.

Nel Chanoyu di Marzo si usano oggetti, pitture e dolci con i tipici disegni di bambole di questa festa.
Ho pensato di rendere omaggio a questa tradizione usando la mia tazza con il disegno hina che ritrae le bambole vestite a festa in un intreccio di rami con foglie e fioriture primaverili. E' una tazza allegra e festosa che amo molto.
